The Blind and Shutter Pros are as concerned with keeping the environment clean and green as anybody.
1. All of our wood shutters are made out of 100% poplar. The trees are harvested from accredited tree farms that are constantly being renewed.
2. All of our components are primed with water-based urea and formaldehyde free finishes, which promote healthier indoor air quality than solvent based finishes. Also, curtain coating application methods eliminate overspray into the atmosphere, providing a safer environment for those who work in the finishing plants.
3. All of our shutters are painted with Zero-VOC UV-cured water-based high performance finishes specially made by PPG Paints. These paints are much more environmentally friendly than solvent based finishes. Also, the paint is much safer to handle and healthier to work with. These finishes are almost like working with a glass of water.
4. The components are curtain coated while the final finish is done in a spray booth. To achieve the finest, highest quality finish, the shutters have to be sprayed. All spraying is done in a custom made paint booth. Also, we have a very stringent policy of changing the filters often to eliminate as much of the release into the air as possible. Also, by using water based finishes, the little bit of overspray that is released into the environment has almost no impact on the environment.
Recycling
We recycle all of our left over paint. When we get enough left over paint we mix it all together into 5 gallon buckets. When we get a good supply of paint we call Habitat for Humanity and donate the paint to them. The paint is then used to paint the houses that they are currently working on.
We are a mid-sized company and we generate a lot of paper waste. All of our cardboard is recycled. We recycle around 1000 cubic yards of cardboard each week. Also, we recycle all of our clean office, breakroom and bathroom paper products. We have specially marked containers throughout our building designated for paper only.
By following these practices we are doing our best to help keep Mother Earth green.
